What is ECU remapping and do I need it ?

Here at remaps UK when we recalibrate and remap your vehicles ECU we are adjusting and fine tuning the code that controls the engine performance and fuel management. As well as increasing overall power and torque we also adjust and amend certain drivability problems in the lower rev ranges; These characteristics can be categorised as flat spots, engine hesitation and low down turbo lag issues, remapping gives the engine more torque making the engine more responsive and pleasurable to drive.

What is the estimated increase in power i will get from the ECU remapping ?
Every car is different and as such every result is different also, we will recalibrate your ECU to deliver most BHP that we consider to be safe and stay well within the manufactures safety limits of stress and strain.

Turbo petrol – 15-35%

Turbo Diesel – 14-40%

Normally aspirated petrol or diesel -10-20%

Will ECU remapping damage my car or engine ?
As we never use generic ECU remapping files and only custom write every single file we produce, all of which are tested, the short answer is No. We will always write a custom remap file for your vehicle engine and model and we will never over-tune your car in order to win your business and to gain for a few extra BHP.

Will the ECU remapping affect my warranty ?
All our software remain undetectable by standard manufacturing diagnostics and vehicle servicing. All software is revalidated to look identical to manufacturers spec, with ECU counters reset where possible. Rest assured that we don’t cut any corners on this and make sure we carry out the new software install to the highest industry standard. However, if the dealership wanted to look at specific telemetry readings they could by comparison see different specs in calibration.

Where can i have the ECU remapping done ?
We offer a nationwide mobile service or you can head down to our tech facility in the South of Birmingham for any development work or projects.

Is there any warranty offered on your ECU remapping ?
All our custom spec remap files come with a lifetime limited warranty.

Should i inform my insurance company about the ECU remapping ?
This decision is totally yours, all we can say is, as stated above all our upgrades remain undetectable from diagnostic intergeneration. But we have found on a whole that the majority of insurance companies add little to nothing in terms of increase in costs, especially if its an Eco remap

Can you bespoke my an individual remap if i have certain requirements?
Whether you are towing a caravan, require more low down grunt or a map that suites your own particular driving style we can accommodate. Developing a custom bespoke map for you needs is not a problem

How long does it take to complete the ECU remapping process ?
This normally takes no more than 1 1/2 hours,give or take the type of vehicle and ECU. But we always ask that you give it 2 hours as this allows you to have a road test also. ECU out and anti tuning ECU’s add another 1 hour.

Can you remap my car if it has a automatic / DSG gear box ?
Not a problem, this makes no difference to our style of mapping whatsoever. The end result is just as good as a manual.

Should i be worried about my vehicle if it has high miles?
Providing the ECU remapping is carried out within spec this makes absolutely no difference at all, we obviously wouldn’t recommend you go for a race tech map.

I have already added mods to my car, can you still map it?
All we ask is that you confirm the full specs of the installed mods and would then recommend a visit to our tech facility to develop a map on the dyno.

Will my fuel consumption change after the ECU remapping ?
If driven normally you should see on average a fuel saving of 15%, but this is very driver dependant, with figures swinging either way depending on how heavy your right foot is. But on a whole even with spirited driving you should see better returns even at performance spec.

Can the ECU remapping be removed?
Absolutely.as we carry out a total read of the original ECU software (this is not done with generic re mappers, so beware) we can reinstall your software back to standard and identical to when we first installed the new map. We would also like to add that if you come to us we don’t even charge for this!

Is the price you quote the price I pay for the ECU remapping ?
Yes, unless you require DPF deletes or speed limiter removal, but these will be included in the price as long as they are enquired about prior to the work being carried out.
